G.H. Bass x Bristol Northern Soul Club.
Keeping the Faith.
A 90th Anniversary Celebration of the Weejun.
To mark the 90th anniversary of the iconic Weejuns loafer, G.H. Bass partnered with the Bristol Northern Soul Club in a campaign rooted in authentic cultural storytelling. Culture Defined served as the lead agency behind the collaboration, connecting the heritage American footwear brand with one of the UK's most passionate and enduring music communities.
The Brief
G.H. Bass wanted to honour the Weejun's place in dance culture in a way that felt earned rather than manufactured. Northern Soul, with its devotion to rare records, athletic dancing, and sharp style, provided the perfect cultural context. The Weejun has long been a staple on the Northern Soul scene, valued for its comfort and low profile during hours of high-energy movement on the dancefloor.
The Work
Culture Defined shaped a partnership centred on the phrase "Keeping the Faith", a motto synonymous with the Northern Soul community's dedication to the music and its values. At the heart of the campaign was a short film shot with the Bristol Northern Soul Club, featuring real dancers and DJs from the scene, including Levanna McLean, all wearing Weejuns. The film captured the energy, fashion, and spirit of Northern Soul while positioning the loafer as the ultimate dance shoe: stylish, practical, and built to last a night on the floor.
The Reach
The campaign rolled out across social media, both with still photography and video content, through both the Bristol Northern Soul Club and G.H. Bass EU's owned channels, with content performing stronger than any previous collaborations on Instagram and Facebook. By anchoring the campaign in genuine community participation rather than paid performance, the content resonated authentically with both the Northern Soul faithful and a broader audience discovering the culture for the first time.
The Result
A brand anniversary campaign that came from within it. By working with a real club, real dancers, and a real community, Culture Defined helped G.H. Bass achieve something rare: a heritage moment that felt as alive as the music it celebrated.
